I am Head of the Division of Law and Philosophy at the University of Stirling. My research focuses on the nature and justification of rights and duties, and their role in shaping a democratic public sphere.
I have published several books, including "Human Rights, Ownership, and the Individual" (OUP, 2019) and co-edited "Philosophical Foundations of Human Rights" (OUP, 2015). I was Principal Investigator for the AHRC-funded project "Norms for the New Public Sphere" (2019-22).
I teach undergraduate and graduate modules in moral, political, and legal philosophy. I have supervised PhD theses on various topics and enjoy postgraduate supervision.
I am a member of the Council of the Royal Institute of Philosophy and the College of Experts for the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
