Prof. Diala is a socio-legal scholar and the foundation Director of the Centre for Legal Integration in Africa at the University of the Western Cape's Faculty of Law. His expertise lies in legal pluralism, comparative law, and human rights, with a focus on the intersection of law, culture, and society.
With a global presence, he has lectured, researched, and advocated in over 20 countries across four continents, including at the International Criminal Court in The Hague and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. He has also worked with various organizations, such as the Foundation for Human Rights Initiative in Uganda and the Justice and Peace Commission in Nigeria.
Prof. Diala holds visiting professorships and fellowships at several institutions, including the University of Turin in Italy, the Nordic Africa Institute in Sweden, and the Bayreuth Academy of Advanced African Studies in Germany. He is rated an 'established researcher' by the National Research Foundation (NRF) in South Africa.
In addition to his academic work, Prof. Diala serves on the editorial boards of several top journals in his field, including the Journal of African Law and Legal Pluralism. He is also the co-editor-in-chief of the African Journal of Legal Studies, published by Brill | Nijhoff.
